The Unmetric API is an easy way to query information about a brand's social media pages, accounts, metrics and related data. The API gives you the flexibility to feed Unmetric competitive intelligence into your in-house proprietary tools, native social media dashboards, command room screens and more.

The Basics

HTTP based: The Unmetric REST API is HTTP based, which means it has a url like http://api.unmetric.com/api/fb/{attribute} for version 1 and a url like http://api.unmetric.com/v2/api/fb/{attribute} for version 2 and can be used directly in your web browser.

REST: The API belongs to the REpresentational State Transfer (REST) category, and can carry out operations to retrieve, replace, create and delete data from the database.
Note: We only allow the retrieve (GET) operation.

Endpoint: An endpoint works as an interface that allows you to query data from a linked web service such as the Unmetric database.


Why do we have Versions?
The goal with Unmetric API versioning is to update and expand upon the data and volume availability of existing versions of the API, while maintaining uninterrupted access to the key metrics and data already being provided. As we continue to innovate with our data, we improve our endpoints and limits layering them with improved insights generated by using Unmetric data across social media tools, platforms and consoles.

Does everything remain unchanged in a version?
At Unmetric we do make changes to existing versions - sometimes, we include more fields in current endpoints or reserve the right to alter the data availability and rate limits provided.

What happens if I don’t specify a version in my API call?
By default, your API call will default to the oldest version of the Unmetric API going by our API query convention.

What are the main differences between v1 and v2?
Between v1 and v2, you will notice the following changes:

  • User Access: Access to the Unmetric platform to pull data using the API is not mandatory for v2 users. The restriction of data to a maximum of 45 brands applicable to v1 is also not binding on v2 users.
  • Access Token: V2 users can obtain access tokens for any length of time. By default, access tokens are provided for a time period of 1 day for v1 users and 100 days for v2 users. Users also need separate access tokens for both v1 and v2 of the API.
  • Rate and Data Limits: V1 users are restricted to 20 API calls per minute and 5000 API calls per day. V2 users have no such restriction. However, their usage will be closely monitored to remain under feasible limits as per Unmetric’s discretion.
  • Endpoints: V1 mainly provided metrics for deep analysis of a brand. V2 is a significant improvement in the volume and depth of metrics - and includes comparison metrics across brands and alerts on brand social media activity and highlights for multiple networks.
